Salisbury Backyard
Conditions Green field, sloping site, inclement weather during construction
Brief

A complete backyard transformation, including new turf, a fire pit and edging.

Located in Salisbury, a suburb to the south west of Brisbane city, this back yard was a combination of grass and weeds. Our client requested a total overhaul of the area and wanted to add some privacy and serenity to the space. Our brief was to start from literally bare ground and create a unique tropical garden with a large range of plant species, a versitile space within the garden that could be used as a seating area or house a firepit and returf the remaining area.

Palms, native trees, heliconia and frangipani's were selected to create screening and focul points, while lush understory plants such as cordylines, flowering gingers, bromeliads and strap leaf grassy plants help to create further botanical interest and plant biodiversity to the gardens.

Existing ground cover (grass and weeds were removed) before garden areas were marked out and created with fresh soil and defined by aluminium garden edging. Plants were installed according to the design created by Kerry prior to job commencement and then mulch to finish it off.

The remaining bare earth was slightly recontoured so as to eliminate any uneven areas before the application of 10m of prime turf underlay soil. Short blade Zoyzia turf was suggested and ultimately selected as the ground cover and after we were happy with final leveling of the space the Zoyzia was laid.

This was a fun job despite the couple of rainy days that turned the site into a mud pit and slightly prolonged the job timeframe. All in all a satisfying transformation that we are proud to have been invloved in from design to installation completion.
